APPENDIX 5 EXAMPLES OF HAZARD WARNING SIGNS

Type of Sign Meaning of Sign Examples
Prohibition signs indicate that certain behaviour is not allowed. They are red bordered circular signs with a red crossbar running form top left to bottom right on a white background. Any symbol must be black and placed centrally on the background and must not obliterate the crossbar. Red must cover at least 35% of the area of the sign. No Smoking

Mandatory signs indicate that a specific course of action is to be taken. They are circular with a blue background. Any symbol must be white and placed centrally on the background. Blue must cover at least 50% of the area of the sign. Eye protection must be worn
